Our trip to Seneca Lake came to end on Monday.
During a great breakfast at the “diner with no sign,” the Dairy Farmer’s Diner” some of the other diners shared their “strawberry habanero jam” from the local strawberry farmer down the road.
We were curious so we drove a couple miles to find a hydroponic strawberry farms which grew strawberries until November!
We were so intrigued we bought a quart of fresh strawberries along with two jars of “strawberry habanero” and a jar of “strawberry garlic jam.”
After a long chat with the farmer we learned all about hydroponic strawberries and lettuce.
On our way back we decided to stop at one last winery, the Four Chimneys Winery which was the first organic winery in the country.
We did a tasting of five different organic wines. It was amazing how clean they all tasted versus the other wines we have tried.
Maybe it is because it is all organic, but they were very tasty.
I even tried one of their fruit wines-pear, which was very good and not too sweet just fruity.
Finally we drove home passing the Watkins Glen Gorge National Park which we decided to leave for our next trip.
After a long drive we went home. It was such a great trip I can’t wait to go back soon.
Enjoy!
Love,
The College Cuisiner
