Philly: Chocolate Covered Strawberry Milkshakes

As Aaron finishes up his final exams, I have been going back and forth between Small Town and Philadelphia. Today I decided to be the supportive fiancĂ© who doesn’t start her job for a few more days, and make milkshakes. Aaron loves strawberry milkshakes but he is also a very health-conscious person. Let’s face it, milkshakes can be fattening, simple as that. But if you make it with the right ingredients it can be a great study snack. I love frozen yoghurt, but the only problem is that to cut the fat, they often add a lot of extra sugar. If you are sugar conscious, try finding a frozen yoghurt/ice cream treat that cuts out most of the sugar like rice milk ice cream. Unfortunately when I’m in Small Town, I don’t have a Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods to go to so sugary fat-free frozen yoghurt has to do.

Buying all the ingredients for these milkshakes cost about the same if you went out and bought two milkshakes from your local ice cream shop. Instead this will give you around 6 milkshakes, do the right thing folks. This is a great every-once-in-awhile treat so indulge a little since it is fat-free and add some chocolate….

I like chocolate and I love chocolate covered strawberries so why not combine them in a milk shake. Strangely enough you don’t often see chocolate and strawberry together in ice cream, instead always separate. Why? These flavors were made for each other, let’s reunite them.

I used Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa powder because it is very low in calories, no extra sugar, and adds that chocolately goodness without the extra fat. If you like it really chocolately and don’t mind the extra sugar, try a packet of hot cocoa mix.

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Milkshakes: 2 Servings

Ingredients:

1 cup fat-free frozen yoghurt
1/3-1/2 cup fat-free milk
1 cup frozen strawberries
2 tbsp Cocoa Powder (more if you like it really chocolately)
Optional: flax seed, vitamin powder, etc. for an extra kick

Directions:

In a blender, grind frozen strawberries and half the amount of milk until well blended.

Add the frozen yoghurt, cocoa powder, and rest of the milk as needed. Blend well.

Serve and drink immediately.

The stats: (for one milk shake)

No fat
6 grams of protein
21 grams of sugar
147 calories

Enjoy!

Love,

The College Cuisiner
